The Academy for Lifelong Learning at the University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee will begin its 10th Spring Session on March 9, 2009. We would like to welcome members and prospective members alike to this new year.
The campus of the University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee provides the facilities and the context for intergenerational encounters. Our members have extensive use of the University library, Einstein Bagels, and may purchase books at the Campus Bookstore at student prices. The Lifelong Learning Academy courses are non-credit, university level courses primarily
based on a liberal arts curriculum, and selected by a
curriculum committee on the basis of member requests, peer
teacher proposals and community experts. We strive for balance
and variety in our course offerings. Classes are held
both at the new USF Sarasota Manatee campus located 1/4
mile north of New College on Tamiami Trail and on Anna
Maria Island at various locations depending on the class offered.
All students are eligible to enroll in both Anna Maria
and the USF Sarasota Manatee campus.
We offer four sessions a year, each session lasting up to 8
weeks. Most classes meet for one hour and twenty minutes, once a week. Academy hours
are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Payment
for one course during the academic year (May 1st, 2008 to
May 1st, 2009) entitles the enrollee to such privileges as access
to the USF campus, use of the high-speed wireless internet, use of the library, student prices at the
Campus Bookstore, and free attendance at special lectures
throughout the year.
Enrollment benefits also include participation in Einstein’s
Circle discussion groups, Wednesday Lunch 'n' Learn gatherings, high speed wireless internet with a student I.D. card and the use of the USF Sarasota Manatee library.
